Start Planning for 2011 simplyYoga Teacher Training!

caroldavid.jpg SUMMARY Teacher Training 2011 Kicks-off February 18th over President's weekend and continues over 15 weekends throughout 2010. Exact dates and workshop requirements listed below. The course will be held at simplyYoga in Kingston, New Jersey taught by Carol Cook, E-RYT, David Thurn, E-RYT, and Nagisa Manabe, RYT and Teaching Assistant.

DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING: This 11 Month simplyYoga training course fulfills all of the requirements for the Nationally Recognized RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) credential of the Yoga Alliance and those who successfully meet the requirements of the course will be eligible to become RYTs at the 200-hour level. Awaken the teacher within and inspire the transformation in others by becoming a hatha yoga teacher.

We offer an in-depth, intensive training of fundamentals of yoga. The course includes a solid grounding in the technical skills and the development of an emphatic, responsible, compassionate and intuitive approach to teaching. The training is designed to lay a solid foundation for yoga practitioners who would like to begin teaching; for teachers seeking additional training, and for serious students who aspire to deepen their practice. Instruction will be based on the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar but practitioners of other yoga styles are welcome in the year long course of study.

The course will prepare participants to provide asana instruction to beginning and multi-level classes with attention to alignment principals and safety. Through practice and discussion, we will explore basic anatomy, skeletal and muscular systems as applied to asana practice, appropriate use of hands-on adjustments, focus on joint movement, range of motion and modifications for students with various health conditions and limitations. We will also discuss essential principles of yoga philosophy, considering their meaning for us as practitioners and as teachers. We will study the history of yoga, ethics for yoga teachers and study Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras. Participants will learn creative sequencing, how to assist, when and why to offer adjustments.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS: There will be take-home assignments to complete between segments. There will be ample opportunity for practice teaching, and assisting in some classes. Students must complete and submit all assignments and material in a timely and satisfactorily manner to receive certification. Simply Yoga’s new Teacher Training program is designed to fulfill the requirements for the national Yoga Alliance’s 200 hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) credential. Students who successfully complete our program will be eligible to be registered with the Yoga Alliance. The program comprises 180 contact hours and an additional 20 (or more) non-contact hours that will include reading and writing assignments. Required Reading listed below the schedule which follows.

She has also participated in trainings conducted by Kevin Gardiner, Patricia Walden, Judith Lasater, and Mukunda Stiles. Carol teaches at simplyYoga and has also served as yoga studio director. Carol is interested in Buddhist psychology, which, like yoga, encourages the mindful recognition and integration of all aspects of our beings.

DAVID THURN, MSW, Ph.D., ERYT: David began his study of yoga with T.K.V. Desikachar. He started his teacher training under Bobbi Goldin at the Yoga Institute of Miami. In his teaching, David combines Iyengar's emphasis on precise alignment and Desikachar's emphasis on tailoring postures to the needs of individual students. He uses the postures and breath work of yoga to explore the connections between body and mind and to help students achieve greater focus, balance, and freedom. David has been teaching at Simply Yoga since March 2002. He holds a Master of Social Work degree from New York University and has completed psychoanalytic training.

NAGISA MANABE, RYT-200:Nagisa is a co-owner of Simply Yoga and the teaching assistant for Teacher Training.
